Measuring a target behavior during a functional behavioral assessment involves counting how many times the behavior occurs in a defined period. This is frequency. Frequency lets you see how often the behavior happens across different times or settings, and you can turn it into a rate (such as occurrences per minute) to compare conditions or track changes over time. It’s different from latency, which measures the time from a cue to the start of the behavior; duration, which is how long the behavior lasts; and topography, which describes the form of the behavior itself. So the count of occurrences is frequency.
